Research
All the four departments of Oulu Business School, namely the departments of Accounting & Finance, Economics, Management & Entrepreneurship and Marketing have publications in high quality international journals. The research activities of OBS have expanded considerably in scale, scope and quality during the past eight years. For instance, in 2006 OBS faculty published 89 articles and, in 2007, over 110 research papers were published in international journals / conferences with referee practice. Research is conducted in areas of Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Logistics, International Business, Management & Organization and Marketing.
Accounting
The Accounting discipline covers a wide range of topics in financial and management accounting. These include firm valuation, security analysis, implications of financial reporting for capital markets, international accounting, management control, management accounting systems and performance measurement.
Economics
The discipline of economics has diverse research interests and areas of specialisation. The main areas of research have recently been dynamic macroeconomics, environmental and resource economics, and applied microeconomics.
Finance
The discipline of finance at the Oulu Business School has a special research emphasis on behavioural finance. In addition, high quality research is conducted in asset allocation and delegated portfolio management.
International Business
Research in international business focuses on the strategies and processes of internationalisation in growth oriented companies and international new ventures. Themes such as multicultural leadership and cross-cultural management, international entrepreneurship and international cooperation, strategy planning and implementation and business development are intertwined with the research projects.
Logistics
In Oulu Business School, the central themes in logistics research include logistics services, transport studies, supply chain and supply network management.
Management
The research in management discipline focuses on various issues of organisational management and behaviour. The topics include the study of organisational culture, learning and knowledge creation, diversity, quality and human resource development, but also the more traditional questions around leadership, managing and organising.
Marketing
The research under Marketing discipline focuses on two main themes. The first theme is concerned with business to business marketing, especially from the viewpoints of business relationships and value creating networks. The second area of focus is electronic business.
